What Drives the Value of Your Coins?
Numismatic valuations are nuanced. Here is what our specialists analyze when formulating your offer:
Original Surface & Mint Luster (Do Not Clean)
Original surfaces, natural toning, and uncleaned mint luster command the highest premiums. Cleaning, polishing, or wiping a coin permanently strips away luster and can destroy 50% to 90% of its collector value.
Rarity, Mintage & Key Dates
Two coins of the exact same type and year can have drastically different values based on the mint mark (such as Carson City "CC") and total mintage figures surviving in higher grades.
Certification & Grade Precision
Third-party grading by PCGS or NGC authenticates strike quality and condition. A single point difference on the 70-point Sheldon scale can mean thousands of dollars in collector value.
Live Precious Metal Spot Rates
For bullion rounds, common-date pre-1933 gold, and 90% "junk" silver bags, value is anchored directly to live global spot prices for pure gold, silver, and platinum.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I clean my coins before bringing them in for an evaluation?
No, never clean your coins under any circumstances. Polishing, dipping, or wiping coins with a cloth leaves microscopic hairline scratches and strips the original mint luster. Collectors pay significant premiums for untouched, original surfaces. We prefer to see them exactly as they came out of the drawer or safe.
Do you buy entire collections or just the most valuable pieces?
We evaluate and make offers on entire collections. Many dealers will cherry-pick the 2 or 3 rarest items and leave you with albums of partial sets that are difficult to sell. We make comprehensive, fair offers across all coins, albums, proof sets, and bulk metals.
Do my coins need to be graded or slabbed by PCGS or NGC?
No. While third-party certified coins make grading standardized, we evaluate raw, unslabbed coins every day. Our specialists have the magnification equipment, reference guides, and market knowledge to grade and authenticate raw coins accurately in-house.
How fast will I be paid once an offer is accepted?
Immediately. Once we inspect the coins and you agree on the valuation, we issue payment on the spot via check or bank wire. Most standard evaluations are completed and funded within a single private appointment.
